The creative practice of healing art combines artistic expression with psychological awareness to promote healing and wellness. These traditional healing arts include dance, music, and writing therapies, just to name a few.
Former Waimea resident and “Friends” co-star Jane Sibbett, who played Ross Geller’s first ex-wife Carol Willick, held a healing arts gathering at Hapuna Beach last weekend under the full moon to share her mode of healing she calls, “Jane’s Dancing Hands.” About 10 residents joined in the ceremonial dance circle designed to combine artistic expression with psychological awareness.
Sibbett has spent the past seven years traveling the world to produce documentaries and events focused on spiritual groups and individuals who have dedicated their lives to inspire and heal others.
In 2015, she noticed her hands moving in ways that others described as helping them find peace, alignment, joy, unconditional love, and self-healing. Her friends coined the phrase, “Jane’s Dancing Hands” to describe the movement.
“From our first kids circle with little ones as young as five months old to single digits, and sweet teens, too, we added folks in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and yes, well into the late 80s,” said Sibbett. “The Dancing Hands Circles inspire all ages. We saw special needs kids particularly taking to this energy, reminding us to free our minds and allow pure Source to lead the dance always.”
Dancing under the stars at Hapuna Beach, Sibbett played ethereal music and moved her arms and hands in spontaneous motions over each participant in the dancing circle. Some participants were overcome with intense emotions while others danced joyfully. There was a clear, expressive connection between Sibbett and the dancing circle participants as she incorporated dancing into what she believes to be part of a movement toward more holistic healing practices.
On her Dancing Hands website, one of Sibbett’s friends is anonymously quoted as saying, “For those of us who have known Jane, we are always touched by her sincere wish to help, to ease those who are suffering, to give comfort and hope. She is always the one who is there for you if you need help or support. She traveled with these “gifted” ones around the world witnessing cancers and Agent Orange sickness disappeared, relationships healed, family reconciled, etc. These evidences are showing up day after day, event after event. Jane seems to be the perfect person to bring us to these healers because deep inside, she cares deeply for each and every one of us, whether it’s caring for her long time friend or a total stranger. She cares and will give herself selflessly whenever the situation calls forth such need.”
As society increasingly acknowledges the role of beliefs, emotions, and spiritual connection in physical wellbeing, healing art becomes a more accepted means of a well-rounded wellness program. The healing arts promote the philosophy that health is more than the absence of illness, but having access to opportunities that incorporate positive experiences for self-knowledge and spiritual growth.
